The LASTINg impacts of the war:
Economic Impacts:
During the war, the Austrian government borrowed a lot of money from countries such as Germany, so after the was the country was facing enormous financial difficulties; there was a specific agenda to bring the country’s financial back into order, and the need for cooperation from both businesses and labor unions, higher and lower classes, if this was to be achieved without Austria’s currency collapsing into hyperinflation. Overall the economic damage around the world is estimated to have been $338 billion dollars. Political Impacts: As mentioned earlier, the Austro-Hungarian empire had it's territory split after the war. Austria would be forced to cede large parts of empire, including Hungary and Balkan territories (Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia), minimizing it to a fraction of its size going back centuries, trimmed down to primarily cover areas dominated by Austrian-German population. Social Impacts: While most men were at war, women around the world had to take over family business, make the money needed to sustain the family and, as it was said by multiple propaganda posters, women had to "do the work he left behind". This resulted in one of the biggest social impacts of the war, now women were more independent and strong. As a result to this slight change in social conventions women were now more frequently working away from home and that required wearing more simple and masculine clothes. Sources: 1,2,9,10,24
